Back to School
Loving God, Our creator, our saviour, our companion,
bless this journey of a new school year that we undertake today.
Refresh our souls and renew our spirits as we embrace the beautiful ministry you have called us to.
We welcome those who are new to this community and ask that you strengthen them to share the wonderful gifts you have given them.
Lord, make our hearts pure as we prepare for the return of students to this school,
and may you guide them to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn.
We ask this in Your name,
Amen
Welcome Back
A very warm welcome back to all our families to the new year at St Kieran Catholic Primary School, and to those new families and children starting their journey with us we wish you all the best! I hope you all have had a wonderful break over Christmas and New Year and managed to get some rest and relaxation in.
The first day of school was a little bit different than what we anticipated at the end of last year, but what can I say, the St Kieran community handled it with ease! I really appreciate the understanding from all the families around the requirements we have had to put in place for this first week and while I would be really happy to say we are back to normal very soon we really do need to take each week as it comes and be as flexible as possible. This may mean that we make changes that don’t suit everyone, however they are made to fit the context of St Kieran and what we are able to do to operate. If you ever have any questions always feel free to ask!
This week was a week that I had been waiting for such a long time! There is always a sense of excitement and even nervousness when you start working at a new school, I guess no different for anyone that starts a new job, but it has been really enjoyable and everyone that I have met or had a chat to so far has made the first week really enjoyable. The students have been even more welcoming, all saying hello and making sure I know which way to go and have been pointing me in the right direction. I look forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks.
COVID Update
Thank you all for your understanding and flexibility regarding the requirements the school has had to put into place for this first week. We will continue to monitor the situation and of course let you know of any updates as they occur that may impact on the school.

We have some new staff that are joining us here at St Kieran for 2021. It is fantastic to be able to welcome to the St Kieran family the new members of our team. We wish you all the very best and hope your time at St Kieran is a rewarding and joyful one.

Communication
As you may or may not know, we are having significant issues regarding our IT network and the programs that we currently use to communicate to families, in particular emails. We have been working with our IT Support staff and those at CEWA to rectify the issue as soon as possible with several upgrades taking place over the upcoming weekend. Can I please ask that if parents haven’t had a response from staff or the office within 24 hours to ring and double check we are aware of it, as it is likely we haven’t received the email. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at school, and I do sincerely apologise for this inconvenience.
On Entry Assessment
All Pre-primary students in Western Australian will participate in an On Entry Assessment Program to provide teachers and schools with information about the skills and understandings that a child brings to school. Conducting this assessment early in the year ensures that your child’s teacher has information about the current skills and understandings of each child to assist in the planning and development of targeted learning programs that address the needs of each individual and identify children who may require early intervention or extension. This approach is supported by national and international research into the early identification of students’ literacy and numeracy skills. The assessment period is during Weeks 3-6 of Term One. At the conclusion of the assessment parents will be provided an overview of their child's results.
Parent / Teacher Information Nights 2021
