- What t-shirt should my child wear today?
Welcome to all returning families and students and to those new to our school. We hope 2020 is a fantastic year for you at St Kieran.
Firstly, I must apologise for my extended absence this week. I was called on Jury Duty and as such, have been required to complete my responsibility for this community service. A very large thank you to my leadership team who have covered my absence amazingly well during the week.
2020 is an exciting year for our school as we celebrate our centenary with a number of events being organised during the year culminating in our main Centenary Event on Sunday 18 October 2020. More information will come out from the Centenary Committee outlining this and other events and what we will be doing to commemorate this important event.
This year we have added one new staff member to our team, Miss Courtney Mowatt in Year Two. Staffing and class placements have changed since last year. A list of all class teachers can be found below.
Below are some important items that all families need to be aware of as they form the everyday part of the school. All of this information can also be found on the new school website at stkieran.wa.edu.au
Code of Conduct
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students. It is important that everyone that enters our school and who interacts with our students either on the school site or in other places follow the code and the expectations that are detailed. The code is not an exhaustive list and is not meant to be. If at any time you need clarification or advice please discuss your questions or concerns with a member of the school leadership team. The Code can be read in full below.
School Uniform
School uniform and the correct wearing of the items outlined in the policy is an expectation provided to families at enrolment. The policy has been created by parents and staff to ensure that our school sets the standards that it expects of the students in the school. To ensure that everyone is aware of the uniform expectations I have included the current policy beneath. It is expected that this policy will be reviewed during this year and members of our school community will be invited to participate in this process.
Mobile Phone Policy- Students
All Government schools are now working under a new Mobile Phone Policy for students. Our school has a current policy that received some updating due to this State Government policy change, specifically, the addition of wearable technology such as watches that have a cellular connection. If you wish for your child to come to school with a mobile phone then you need to read this policy and complete the attached permission form (page 2 of the Mobile Phone Usage Policy). Please note students are not allowed to keep phones on their person or in their school bags at St Kieran.
Contacting your class teacher
If you need to contact your classroom teacher you can either email them at their school email address or contact the school admin at admin@stkieran.wa.edu.au and request a callback or an interview. Your teacher has already sent you several emails and I would request that you save their address in case you need to make direct contact with them. We will not post individual email addresses to reduce spam email that is generated by posting these on our website.
Please note that all information regarding absences, medical needs or changes to normal pick up must be forwarded to the admin email account or phoned through.
Please do not send these through to your child’s teacher as they are not always able to find time in their day to check emails except at breaks or at the end of the day or they may be away sick or on offsite training. Our admin email and phone are always checked regularly during the day and all relevant information will be passed on as soon as possible.
Please also ensure that you have access to Seesaw to follow your child's class and your individual child's progress. We see this tool as extremely important to stay informed with what your child is doing and as an opportunity to flag any concerns or questions regarding their progress with their class teacher.
I hope you find the school year a fruitful one. Have a great weekend!
