National Reconciliation Week (NRW)
The 2019 NRW theme is Grounded in Truth - Walk Together with Courage
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
We have celebrated this week with a liturgy in the undercover area with each child contributing to the Sea of Hands displayed in the school grounds and our staff constructing the wonderful display in the front office. Why a sea of hands of different colours? The hands symbolise community support for RECONCILIATION, RIGHTS and RESPECT. By planting a sea of hands is an act of recognition – of identities, cultures and history. These are messages that are the very core of our Catholic faith and are important teaching points that have been explored during the week.
The short video below expands on the NRW 2019 theme- It is short but powerful in its message and worth the 60 seconds of your time.
Semester One Reports
Staff are currently completing reports for students in Pre Primary for Year Six and we are aiming to release these to parents by Friday of Week 9 to allow parents the opportunity to discuss reports with staff during Week 10. We will resend login details for all parents over the next few weeks to ensure any login issues are ironed out before reports are released.
Welcome Brad Gaynor
Yesterday the Australian Catholic Primary Principal President Brad Gaynor visited our school on a very busy day of school visits and meetings. Brad has been president of the association since 2017 and I serve as one of his deputies on the national body. We visited several classes during the brief visit and like many of our visitors, Brad commented about the wonderful sense of belonging that he felt during his time in our school.
