Welcome back to Term 2
Welcome back to all our community members who have returned after the Easter and Anzac day infused break. We hope this time was a relaxing and recharging time for both you and your children.
A special welcome to Miss Paula Gomez who is the Yr 2W teacher during Term Two whilst Mrs Day remains on leave this term.
We also welcome back Mrs Phoebe Behiels who returns from maternity leave to work together in Yr 3W with Mrs Matsen. Welcome back also to Mrs Brennan who has returned after a break during Term One.
During the holiday break, a number of items were worked on through the school, including the annual painting program that is still to be completed and the replacement of the undercover area lights with modern LCD globes, which are both more cost effective and with a much smaller footprint. The builders have almost completed their final list of repairs with some minor painting and touching up to be completed across different locations. A major upgrade of our security monitoring system has also occurred that will assist us with both prevention and identification of unwelcome visitors out of school hours.
Mothers' Day Assembly and Morning Tea
Next Friday morning we will run a Mothers Day themed assembly and afterwards invite all mothers and other female role models to morning tea, provided by the school. To assist us in determining catering could you please fill in the following survey to help us ensure that we cater appropriately.
NAPLAN
In 2019, most schools in Western Australia will move to the online version of the test regime. St Kieran is one of the schools that will be using the online testing portal with both Yr 3 and Yr 5 students. For those who are interested, a public demonstration site has been set up for students, staff and parents to experience what the new testing process will look and feel like. If you are interested in looking at the type of questions and how they are delivered then please go to the link below
One major change in the online NAPLAN testing is a feature known as ‘tailored testing’, where the test automatically adapts to a student’s test performance and asks questions that match the student’s achievement level. You can find out more at this at the above site including FAQ’s and a number of PDF’s that give further information on the NAPLAN online process. It is well worth the look, even if your child will not be completing testing in 2019.
Canteen survey
Since we moved to an offsite canteen service in 2017 we have requested feedback on the model each year. it is extremely difficult to please everyone when you have a service that caters for such a large and diverse group of people. If you have 5 minutes to provide us with some feedback that we can share with Montellos so we can provide the best possible service to your children and our families.
Federal Election
Attached below are some resources that we have been encouraged to share with our staff and school families. The fact sheet and FAQs from the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) and Catholic School Parents Australia are both accessible and very informative and make the case for the value of Catholic education systems in the national context. This national perspective is an important one as it tries to dispel the myths that exist around school funding for Catholic schools.
