Principal News

Dear Parents and Guardians

On Tuesday night the annual General Meeting of the school board was conducted. The reports of the Board Chair Chelsea Lim and the Treasurer Sam Wijethunga were presented at the meeting.

A breakdown of the 2020 school budget was presented and a small 2% increase to fees was passed. The increase has been made necessary with the loss of a percentage of State Government funds which have affected all Catholic schools. We have attempted to construct a budget that meets the needs of our school community both in service and cost.

This is the first increase since 2018 and the board was mindful that any increase, especially in this current environment may cause difficulties. The amount is approximately $2 per week than 2019 with a more detailed breakdown provided below.

The board also held the election for three new members. Gary McAllister was reelected, with Paola Marsden and Georgie Ellie the other two members elected to the position for the next two years. Bernie Parsons chose not to re-stand for a position and Sam Wijethunga completed his twelve-month secondment to the board. We thank both of the retiring members for their service to the school and their willingness to take part in the work of the school board.

Reports will be released before the start of Week 9, the last week of term. This will allow parents to follow up with staff if any further clarification is required.

Classes for 2020, including teachers for next year will be announced at the beginning of Week 9, the last week of school for students. Ms Loretto Brennan will not be returning next year after a number of years at our school. We truly appreciate her wonderful caring nature and willingness to do whatever is needed for the children in her care. She truly demonstrates how she makes Jesus real in the interactions that she has with children and adults each day in our school. Mrs Penny Storey has also informed me that after a long career in supporting students in our school as our social worker, that she will be retiring towards the end of Term 1 2020. We will commence the process at the beginning of the new school year to find a replacement, which will certainly be difficult.

Have a great weekend!
