Principal's Message

Staffing

Welcome back to Marilyn Day who has returned to the Year Two classroom and to Lisa Wilson who returns to us as an Education Assistant.

On the flip side, however, we farewell Mrs Lisa Monzu, our Bursar who is moving to Holy Rosary Doubleview to take on the same role at her children's school. We will miss Lisa for her outstanding work ethic and her amazing clarity with accounting practices and organisation. It also helped that she is an extremely likeable person and she will be truly missed by the St Kieran Staff and community. Mrs Kathryn Climo has been the successful applicant for the position and will take over the position in a few weeks.

Grotto Update

If you have been onsite during this week you will have seen that we have removed the collapsed wall in the grotto outside the current Year Three classrooms. In the removal process, we have discovered that the root system of these trees has infiltrated the drain system and has caused other damage to some of the paving.

The School Board has been monitoring the situation for the past several months and will look at re-imaging this space together with ProjectScape who has done previous work at Adventure and in the Early Child playgrounds.

We will provide the school community more information when we have a plan moving forward.

School Fees

School Fees for Term Three are now due. If you pay in three instalments, this final payment should be paid before the end of the term. We appreciate that the majority of families either pay in full or via instalments.

Your regular payments ensure that we can meet our financial responsibilities as we are required to budget for our costings, as a large chunk of our federal and state funding is not paid until very late in the school year.

Kindergarten and 3YO Enrolment- Immunisation Requirements

You may have read in the media earlier this week changes to enrolment procedures for Kindergarten that took effect from July 22.

Updates to the Public Health Act 2016 and School Education Act 1999 require that when enrolling a student in Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten programs, parents/carers must provide:

  • an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement, no more than two months old, with a status of ‘up to date’; or
  • an AIR Immunisation History Form, no more than six months old, if the child is on a catch-up schedule; or
  • a valid immunisation certificate issued or declared by the Chief Health Officer.

This applies to new enrolments from 22 July 2019 and enrolments being processed for the 2020 school year.

Students already enrolled and continuing at the same school for the remainder of 2019 are not affected.

If enrolment of a child attending Kindergarten in 2019 or 2020 has already been finalised, the enrolment is not affected by this change.

Where an application for enrolment has not been accepted and/or finalised, the new immunisation requirements must be met.

If you have a younger child who you will be enrolling in 2020 or afterwards and you are unable to provide the documentation, then you will need to meet with a member of the leadership team to discuss your particular circumstance. There are some exceptions, but these are tightly monitored. If in doubt, then please contact our office and we will assist you.

Cape Street Parking

Earlier today I met, together with representatives from Servite College, and the City of Stirling regarding the issues with illegal parking between the 2 lanes on Cape Street, together with complaints from the residents opposite both schools.

The main issues relate to people parking illegally in both the centre dividing space on Cape Street and those who continue to ignore the clearly labelled parking sign in the bus areas. We have a number of areas where people can legally park near the school. The Church car park and Greenville Reserve are two large parking areas available to park and walk to school to collect children.

Both are a short two-three minute walk from the school and will allow you easy access in and out of the area with a minimum of traffic concerns. If you attempt to park closer to the school, then you will need to expect delays in getting away quickly from this area. We will continue to work with Servite and the City of Stirling in ensuring that this area is safe for children and adults to walk into our school and to exit the areas with a minimum of issues.

Remember that safety, not speed or ease of access is our main consideration.
