St Kieran News
“If we really want to love, we must learn to forgive.” Mother Teresa.
We praise and thank you, God, our Father in heaven,
because in love you have given us Jesus to lead us back to you.
Strengthen us in our weakness with the power of your Spirit
and help us to follow your Son in love and forgiveness.
Amen
Significantly, this same double emphasis on loving God and loving one’s neighbour, also runs all through Christ’s familiar prayer, the “Our Father” - though with a nice little reminder that may get forgotten. For the first three verses are a hymn of praise to God, while the others embody prayers for God’s help and forgiveness – on the condition that we extend the same kind of forgiveness to those who may have offended us. ‘Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’.
Luke 11:2-4 Likewise, in Matthew’s Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says: ‘If you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours; but if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failings either’ Matthew 6:12. So ‘when you stand in prayer, forgive whatever you have against anybody, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your failings too’. Mark 11:25
Forgiveness is choosing to love - Ghandi
The above is a great reflection as our Year 3 classes along with the parish children have been undertaking the sacrament of reconciliation. Often the perception of this sacrament can be about the wrong rather than right and the right is extremely powerful and meaningful. To be able to reconcile the wrongs and ask for forgiveness and grow closer to our faith is a wonderful experience. As a faith community this is even more powerful as we deal with the day to day dealings with each other and those close to us. Often that ability to reconcile and ask for forgiveness is hard to do but knowing that it comes from an amazing place is our faith in action.
Have a great weekend take care and stay safe.

Daine Burnett
St Kieran School Survey - Closing soon! Monday 24th May
This year St Kieran will be taking part in a school climate survey that will be issued to all parents, staff and students from Year 3 - 6. This will be an online survey that all families will have the ability to complete over the next few weeks. We will be sending out more detailed information regarding this and accessing the survey very soon, which will include log in details and timeframes electronically. The following information may assist you with understanding the survey, keeping in mind more detailed information will be coming to you soon:
- This survey is to find out about the climate at THIS school - St Kieran Catholic Primary School.
- The importance of the survey is an opportunity for parents to tell the school staff how things are going for you and your children.
- The feedback will be anonymous and does NOT include the data of individuals; rather, feedback involves a graph based on feedback from all parents. To ensure anonymity, aggregated scores are not provided for groups of less than four parents.
- It is your overall impression that we are seeking and looking to gather. There are no right or wrong answers, and the information will help us direct St Kieran into the future.
- The response format requires you to consider how often each statement takes place in terms of: Almost Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Often and Almost Always.
Tyler Street Crossing and Roadworks
Please be advised that the above children’s crossing is currently being reviewed by the Children’s Crossings and Road Safety Committee (CC&RSC).
I would ask that all families use this crossing as it will assist the community making further decisions moving forward. In order to complete the review two sets of surveys (x2 AM and x2 PM) will be conducted at the location along with a site assessment. Please encourage student pedestrians to utilise the facility so that a true picture of the school community’s needs may be gathered.
Tyler Street will also be having roadworks at the end of May and beginning of June - parents will need to take this into consideration when collecting your children from St Kieran or Servite.
Unwell Students
Can we please ask that unwell students are not sent to school. This in turn has an impact on the other students as well as the staff. Your consideration around this matter is appreciated.
If your child is late or sick please ensure you let the front office know.
1. Call the Absentee line 63832619 & leave your Child's name, Roll group and a brief explanation.
2. Schoolzine App - Absentee option
3. Email admin@stkieran.wa.edu.au
4. Long extended leave please see the office.
School Website
We have been revisiting the layout and the presentation of our school website. This website will be going 'live' very soon for the community. We will also be updating and providing more information on this site, so please bear with us as this is completed and information transferred over, once it is up and running, we are happy to take feedback regarding what sort of information we should have on the website for the community.
Helping Your Child at Home Workshop
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Helping Your Child at Home with Reading, Writing and Maths workshop on Wednesday night. Parents heard many reasons why their support at home is vital and our presenters went through a range of strategies and ways to support their child at home. Thank you to Julie Pusey, Vlinder Matsen, Catherine Connell and Liz Watson for sharing their knowledge and presenting an informative and engaging session.
Uniform Committee
The school is currently going through a review process of the school uniform. Last year the school conducted an online survey to gather feedback from the community about the current school uniform. Parent representatives have been asked to form a committee and use the data from the survey to drive decisions going forward. This process will take up to two years as we research different items and supplies; and take into consideration the needs of our community. If you have any specific feedback you would like the committee to raise, please email admin.
Kieran Connect Executive Committee 2021
Kieran Connect is officially affiliated to the Catholic School Parents WA Inc and require the names of our Office Bearers for 2021.
These roles are:
President - VACANT
Vice President - VACANT
Secretary - VACANT
Treasurer - Mrs Di Atkinson
Kieran Connect Representative of the council - Mrs Samantha Fiore
A huge thanks to Mrs Danielle Harsant who filled the role of secretary over the last year. We appreciate all your hard work in helping to coordinate events and keeping the spirit of Kieran Connect alive.
As you can see, we have some vacancies and require dynamic and dedicated people to fulfill the roles for the rest of 2021 only.
Please see below the duties of each role
President Duties
The duties of the President commence prior to the meeting. The President should ensure that members have been advised of the meeting, that an agenda has been prepared with the Leadership Team and that the venue and time of the meeting have been advertised. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
- to ensure a quorum is present,
- to maintain order of the meeting,
- to ensure that members are aware of the minutes of the previous meeting and to obtain confirmation of these minutes,
- to give all members the opportunity to speak but also to confine speakers to the matters under discussion.
- to be impartial.
Vice President Duties
The specific duty of a Vice-President is to act as Chairman at those meetings from which the President is absent. In many Associations that is all that is required of a Vice-President, which means they operate during the year as just another member of the Executive. However, the Vice-President’s role can be far greater, and the Vice-President should be seen as a potential understudy to the President. Vice-Presidents should become familiar with the operation of the Association and acquaint themselves with the duties of the President, including a working knowledge of meeting rules and procedures. In addition, Vice-Presidents should offer to act as convenor for any sub-committees established by the Executive and to undertake other tasks to reduce the burden of the President.
Secretary
MINUTES The minutes of the meeting should be concise, expressing only facts of the meeting (and not the writer’s opinions). It is recommended that all decisions requiring action by the Secretary be dealt with as soon as possible after the meeting and that copies of any correspondence be retained in a file for future reference. It is recommended that, regardless of the presence or absence of ex-officio representation from the Parish Council, a copy of the minutes from every P&F Association meeting should be forwarded promptly to the Parish Office.
THE AGENDA An agenda should always be prepared in collaboration with the President. It should be prepared well in advance and, if possible, distributed along with the minutes of the previous meeting. If it is not possible to distribute the agenda then make copies available at the meeting or, at the very least, pin a copy where it can be read by members as they arrive at the meeting.
CORRESPONDENCE The Secretary should decide which correspondence needs to be brought to the attention of the members and which should be tabled. Letters and documents from the Parents and Friends Federation of WA Inc., Catholic Education Commission, Education Department and any other relevant body or individual should be read out in full to the meeting. However, if a document is considered to be too long, a summary of its contents will suffice.

Kindy Enrolments 2022
If your child was born between 1 July 2017 - 30 June 2018, we are currently completing enrolments and conducting interviews for Kindy 2022. Please make sure that you let your family and friends know and if you have a sibling please ensure that you have completed an enrolment form.
Your Move Parent Survey Report
Earlier this year, we sent out a Your Move Travel Survey through the newsletter for families to complete. We had 85 responses to the survey which has given us invaluable information about people’s mindset about safety and travel to and from school as well as challenges it can present.
As a Your Move school we are committed towards encouraging our students to use bikes, scooters, walking and public transport to get to and from school safely more often. We aim to reduce the number of cars at drop off and pick up times, to create a safe space around our school environment and help promote physical activity.
As a school community we strongly value the importance of road safety. A majority of people indicated that physical activity is essential to health and well-being. In Term 1 we held a Travel Festival with various organisations such as RAC, Skateboarding WA, Transperth and People on Bikes to promote these key messages. We also had a group of Year 4 students volunteer with Behaviour Design Works and the City of Stirling to paint road safety stencils on the pathways around our school.
Most families in our school travel to and from school via car. One of the main influencing reasons behind this is the fact that 69.4% of our families travel greater than 2km. This proves to be a challenging scenario for assisting us in influencing behavioural change at our school, however 67% of families are willing to try out an alternative mode of transport which is pleasing to see.
Through our commitment towards reducing traffic at our school and promoting physical activity. We will continue to provide active travel information through the newsletter, host more school events and introduce class competitions and incentives.
