St Kieran Newsletter Term 2, Week 3 - 7 May 2021
May - The Month of Mary
May is the month of Mary. Catholics look to Mary to learn how to have faith in God and follow God in their daily lives. People learn from Mary’s example how to live as Christians and follow God. Mary is a model of faith. Mary always cooperated and trusted in God. She is an example of living and responding to God with faithfulness and love. Mary always said ‘yes’ to God. She responded with great hope and love to all God asked of her, even in times when she did not fully understand what God was asking of her.
Mary’s example of discipleship helps Catholics be people of faith, hope and love. The Rosary is one way Catholics can pray with Mary to become people of faith, hope and love. The Rosary is a special prayer which helps people think about and meditate on the life of Jesus. By praying and meditating on the rosary with Mary, people remember the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. They remember and meditate on important events in the lives of Jesus and his mother. Catholics use rosary beads to help them pray and meditate. The beads of a rosary are used to count the prayers as they are prayed out loud or in silence.
The rosary is divided into five groups of ten beads called decades. As people pray the rosary they meditate on the events in the life of Jesus and his mother Mary. These are called mysteries. There are four sets of ‘Mysteries of the Rosary’, called Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious. These four “Mysteries of the Rosary” contain, a total of twenty mysteries. The repetition of the prayers when praying the rosary helps people in this prayerful meditation. When people pray the rosary, their thoughts focus on a different mystery for each decade. These mysteries represent the significant events in the life of Jesus.

Tyler Street Crossing
Please be advised that the above children’s crossing is currently being reviewed by the Children’s Crossings and Road Safety Committee (CC&RSC).
I would ask that all families use this crossing as it will assist the community making further decisions moving forward. In order to complete the review two sets of surveys (x2 AM and x2 PM) will be conducted at the location along with a site assessment. Please encourage student pedestrians to utilise the facility so that a true picture of the school community’s needs may be gathered.
Tyler Street Roadworks will be taking place late May/early June.

This is a reminder to all families that we still have restrictions in place in Western Australia, which means families or visitors come onto site they must be well, the use of hand sanitiser that is available, and students are constantly encouraged to practise good hygiene.

- Avoid congregations or bottlenecking.
- Maintain appropriate social distancing.
Parent Information Session
Last Friday we held the first of our Parent Sessions, ‘Helping Your Child At Home With Oral Language and Letters and Sounds’. We were delighted and grateful to see so many parents at our very first presentation. Thank you.
It is our hope that through the presentation of such sessions here, at St Kieran, we can work in partnership with each other to support and facilitate the learning of your child.
Next Wednesday, 12th May 2021, we have a second parent session, ‘Helping Your Child At Home with the 3R’s – Reading, Writing and Numeracy’.
While this session is targeted towards parents of Pre Primary, Year One and Year Two children, all parents are welcome.
The one hour session will commence at 5:30pm in the Upper Learning Centre. We encourage you to come along and take advantage of this great learning opportunity as staff present easy and effective strategies for helping children with reading, writing and thinking mathematically, at home.
Unwell Students
Can we please ask that unwell students are not sent to school. This in turn has an impact on the other students as well as the staff. Your consideration around this matter is appreciated.
Parking and Supervision at St Kieran
Please note parking in front of administration on Tyler Street is reserved for our Students with Additional Needs families - please refrain from parking here as it causes unnecessary stress on these families.
All other families walking in to collect children are asked to park in the church car park. Before school, St Kieran Staff will only supervise the undercover area; and after school, staff will supervise the drive through and the undercover area.
St Kieran School Survey
This year St Kieran will be taking part in a school climate survey that will be issued to all parents, staff and students from Year 3 - 6. This will be an online survey that all families will have the ability to complete over the next few weeks. We will be sending out more detailed information regarding this and accessing the survey very soon, which will include log in details and timeframes electronically. The following information may assist you with understanding the survey, keeping in mind more detailed information will be coming to you soon:
- This survey is to find out about the climate at THIS school - St Kieran Catholic Primary School.
- The importance of the survey is an opportunity for parents to tell the school staff how things are going for you and your children.
- The feedback will be anonymous and does NOT include the data of individuals; rather, feedback involves a graph based on feedback from all parents. To ensure anonymity, aggregated scores are not provided for groups of less than four parents.
- It is your overall impression that we are seeking and looking to gather. There are no right or wrong answers, and the information will help us direct St Kieran into the future.
- The response format requires you to consider how often each statement takes place in terms of:
Almost Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Often and Almost Always
