St Kieran Feast Day
Today as a school we celebrated the Feast Day of St Kieran with Mass for Years 1-6. St Kieran was born in Ireland in the year 501. He was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland and is considered the first Saint to been born in Ireland. Very little is known about St Kieran, but it is believed that while he was studying in Rome, St Patrick asked him to build a monastery.
Instead, St Kieran built himself a small cell, or home, in the countryside and lived as a hermit. He only interacted with the animals in the forest. After a few years, others had heard about his life and came to live with him. Eventually he built a monastery around the small cell that he first lived in for others to come, pray and worship.
Year 3 iPad's and Parent Meeting
Today the 3 iPads will be sent home with the students in Year 3. We really appreciate the patience of the parents and also the students as we have been waiting for these to arrive from the distributer. Unfortunately we are in a similar position to many environments when waiting for goods and services. I would also like to thank the staff who have made this a priority to ensure they are set up and ready for the students to use.
As part of the iPad Program at St Kieran a Parent Meeting will be held on Tuesday 16th March for parents from 6 - 7pm for one adult per family in the Upper Learning Area. This meeting will go over the fundamentals behind the program, security questions and the agreement.
St Kieran Gate
The main St Kieran School Gate is getting a few touch ups and then repainted ready for the 100th Year Celebration where as part of the celebration it will be blessed by the Archbishop and hold the school secure for many years to come.
Communion Commitment Masses
This weekend all students who have enrolled in the Sacrament of Holy Communion are asked to attend one of the parish masses as a sign of their commitment. During the mass, students will be asked to stand and pledge their commitment to the sacrament.
Reconciliation Community Service
In preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, students are asked to complete a Community Service Program. Father Wilson is encouraging those students who have enrolled in the Sacrament, to continue their preparation by attending at least 6 Masses leading up to the Sacrament and offer to assist at other masses. Community Service forms were sent home this week and students are encouraged to bring their form to each mass to be signed by Father Wilson or a parishioner.
School Times and Drop Off Arrangements for Pre Primary - Year 6
As noted in last weeks newsletter:
- Gates open at 8.10am
- Classroom doors open at 8.20am
- Official teaching time begins at 8.35am
The drive through and the Morgan's Street gate will close at 8.35am as school has officially started. If students arrive after 8.35am, parents must park their car in an appropriate bay (possibly at the Church car park) and students must enter the school via the office and sign in as late. The Tyler Street entrance is NOT to be used as a drop off area. The parking bays out the front of the school on Tyler Street, are only to be used for students with disabilities and those families with ACROD stickers. Students should not be getting out of cars on Tyler Street. This is not a drive through drop off for late students.
Staff Special Minister Training
Yesterday afternoon 10 staff members participated in the St Kieran Parish's Special Minister training. Special Ministers are required at every mass to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ. The staff, who volunteered their time, worked with Father Wilson and explored the history of the Eucharist. They explored how the Old testament and New Testament are connected with the Eucharist. They discussed the elements of the mass and the ways in which Christ is present during the mass. We thank those staff members who gave up their time to further their own faith and development and assist our parish community.
100 YEAR CENTENARY
As part of the upcoming school Centenary Celebrations on Sunday 21st March, we would like some of our children from years three to six to be part of a choir to sing at the Centenary Mass and then at the official ceremony at the school immediately afterwards. Mrs Brown will speak to the children over the next week to explain and see who are interested. They will need parental permission to participate as parents will be required to attend with their children. It will be a very special day. The Mass starts at 11.00am and the formal part of the celebration will conclude with the children singing at about 12.30pm. Please email your child's name and class to Mrs Brown as soon as possible at denise.brown@cewa.edu.au

YOUR MOVE SCHOOL
Our school is a Your Move School. This means we are committed to encouraging our students to use bikes, scooters, walking and public transport to get to and from school safely more often.
I have attached a link to a survey below. This survey will enable us to find out a little about how you travel to school, what challenges you face using active modes of transport and where possible, find solutions to these challenges. We aim to reduce the number of cars at drop off and pick up times, to create a safe space around our school environment.

Your contribution to this survey is important and will only take 3 minutes of your time to complete.
Kind Regards
