ST KIERAN NEWS
200 YEARS - FAITH IN THE FUTURE OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN AUSTRALIA
Almighty and all-loving God,
with gratitude for the endeavours of Catholic education in the past,
with confidence in our Catholic pre-schools, schools and universities today, and with faith in their continuing contribution in the future,
we celebrate 200 years of Catholic education in this Great South Land.
As our Heavenly Father,
we thank you for your providential care for your children in this land in inspiring priests, religious and lay people
to found and staff our schools in ages past.
Through them the Good News of your Son was brought to the young even in colonial times – and ever since.
As Christ the Teacher,
you grace the staff and leaders of Catholic education today. As they build on the achievements of their predecessors direct them in their present efforts
to ensure that every young Australian has the opportunity for an excellent education and formation in faith.
As our Inspiring Spirit,
you lead us into the future.
In the century ahead grant those teaching and learning in our schools,
those planning and leading,
and the families and community that entrust their young people to us,
a love of learning and a willingness to be the face of Christ
in the world of tomorrow.
Pour out your abundant blessings upon all involved in the ministry of Catholic education.
Amen.
Our Lady of the Southern Cross – pray for us.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Patron of Catholic Education in Australia – pray for us.
100 Year Celebrations
Last weekend current and former staff from St Kieran had a formal reunion as part of the Centenary celebrations for St Kieran. There were about 100 people attending , with the earliest staff from 1978. There was a lot of reminiscing, sharing of stories, smiles and laughter. We look forward to seeing many who were there at the school community celebrations on the 21st March.
And wait, there is more….. As part of the upcoming school Centenary Celebrations on Sunday 21st March, we would like some of our children from years three to six to be part of a choir to sing at the Centenary Mass and then at the official ceremony at the school immediately afterwards. Mrs Brown will speak to the children over the next week to explain and see who are interested. They will need parental permission to participate as parents will be required to attend with their children. It will be a very special day. The Mass starts at 11.00am and the formal part of the celebration will conclude with the children singing at about 12.30pm.
Allergy Aware
A reminder that we are Allergy Aware at St Kieran, we have many of our families that rely on our vigilance, which means we all need to be mindful of the following life threatening allergic reactions at the school.
Below is a list of allergies we are aware of:
- All nuts
- Eggs (raw or cooked), meringues
- Kiwi fruit, bananas, figs
- Mosquito bites
- Insect repellents
- Honey and Bee venom
- Legumes
- Penicillin

Drop off and Pick Up reminders
In the morning, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE KINDY / PP AREA BEFORE 8.20am, this area is not supervised. If your child is at school earlier, then please wait in the undercover area where supervision is provided.
Children are NOT TO PLAY ON ANY PLAY EQUIPMENT BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL. Play equipment is not supervised at these times and as a matter of safety we ask students to sit in the undercover area before school and leave school grounds immediately at the end of the day.
Tyler Street gates are to be used as the only pedestrian access before and after school. Pedestrians are not to use the Morgans Street gate as it can be dangerous with the car drop off and pick up. Students should not be dropped off on Tyler Street in front of the school gates, parents must use the drive through on Morgans Street for drop offs.
The drive through area does not open till 8.10am. Parents are asked not to enter this area and park in the driveway prior to 8.10am, as staff cannot enter to park their car.
Pre Primary - Year 6 parents - a reminder that gates open at 8.10am, classroom doors open at 8.20am and official teaching time begins at 8.35am. If students arrive after 8.35am they are officially classified as late and must enter via the school office to sign in. Morgan Street gate will close at 8.35am for this reason, so please endeavour to get children here on time.
Sacramental Enrolments and Parent Child Workshops
Thank you to those parents who have returned their child's Sacramental Enrolment paper work. If you have not done so and wish for your child to receive a Sacrament this year, please send in the enrolment form and payment to the class teacher. Please be aware that some sessions for the Parent Child Workshops may change dates or times due to enrolment numbers and COVID restrictions. When dates and times are confirmed we will inform parents immediately.
St Kieran Day and Mass
Next Friday 5th March the school will celebrate the Feast of Saint Kieran. We will begin the day with Mass at 9am for Year 1-6. Due to COVID restrictions and church capacity numbers, families cannot attend this mass. Students will celebrate the day by participating in activities in class that celebrate St Kieran and the school's Centenary Celebrations.
