Principal's Message
Canonisation of Mary MacKillop
Mary MacKillop was canonised on October 17th, 2010 at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome. Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed Mary’s sainthood during a canonisation mass, which was streamed live around the world.
Mary’s extraordinary life and faith were well known and acknowledged throughout Australia and the world. Father Paul Gardiner was asked to go to Rome in 1983 to prepare a position for the case of making Mary MacKillop a saint. His job was to prepare documentary evidence and writing a full historical account of Mary’s life. This task took six years and resulted in three volumes of work, which was presented to the authorities at Congregation for the Causes of Saints at the Vatican. The cause for Mary MacKillop to be canonised was approved. Divine endorsement was then sought in the form of two miracles; one before beatification, the other before canonisation.
The First Miracle
The first miracle involved a 24 year old Sydney woman whose recovery from leukaemia was medically inexplicable. All information regarding this event was examined to determine whether the intercession could be attributed to Mary MacKillop. The decision was in favour of the intercession of Mary MacKillop. Mary was beatified in Sydney on January 19, 1995 by Pope John Paul II. Mary now had the tiled of ‘Blessed’ and could be honoured in liturgy for Australia as our first saint.
The Second Miracle
Now a case had to be made for a second miracle. On December 19, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI approved the attribution of the remarkable cure of a woman with inoperable cancer to the intercession of Mary MacKillop. This was the final step required for canonisation. On February 19, 2010, Pope Benedict announced that Mary MacKillop would become Australia’s first saint.
Canonisation
Over 50,000 pilgrims gathered at the Vatican, in Rome, for the canonisation of Blessed Mary MacKillop. There were many Australian flags and gold balloons bearing Mary’s image. Pope Benedict XVI spoke about Mary’s achievements, noting her dedication to teaching. Australia now has its very first saint.
I hope the week has been good to you all.
Best wishes and take care.

A reminder to all families to continue to check the school calendar on our website for dates and events that are coming up during the term. We conclude the school year on Friday 6th December.
Contact Details - Parents
It is imperative that parents and families update the school when your personal details change during the year. If you change your email address or mobile phone, please ensure that the school administration is contacted so we can update these details for communication purposes.
School Fees
A reminder to all families that school fees are due and that if for any reason you are falling behind you need to make an appointment with the school principal to address these and the payments required.
Kindy Induction Night
Just a reminder that we have our 2025 Kindy Induction night on Thursday 30th October at 6pm in the Upper Learning Area. All parents with steins in Kindy 2025 are expected to attend this night to find out about more about the program and meet the families in this year level. Parents must make sure they sign in on the night. Please enter through the Morgans Street Gates.
Kieran Connect 2025
Kieran Connect have had a very successful year in 2024 with our planned events including; the Family Welcome event, the Mothers and Fathers Day Breakfasts and our upcoming end of year student events. These events are testimony to the amazing efforts of our Committee members and our Parent Class Reps. In order to help ensure continued success we are seeking parents interested in joining the Committee for 2025.
We understand that everyone is busy and time is precious, so we can assure you that it won't be a big ask, however we can confirm it will be a rewarding experience. Please contact Mr Burnett for further information - daine.burnett@cewa.edu.au
Parking
We again need to remind parents about parking at St Kieran, unfortunately this seems to be an ongoing concern and while many families do the right thing for everyone it continues to create frustrations for many. The school staff do not have the legal ability to enforce parent driving behaviours, however if you are putting a child at risk by not following our very simple instructions we will follow up with you and address this.
- DO NOT turn right into the Kiss and Drive - please wait your turn in the queue.
- Do NOT overtake the queue and push in front of the Kiss and Drive line. Be respectful of others.
- Keep the Corner of Tyler Street and Morgans Street free from all traffic.
- DO NOT pick up or drop your child off on the road outside of the administration - find a legal parking bay or use the Kiss and Drive.
- If you DO Not have an ACROD Permit please don’t use the disabled bays.
- Ciaran Centre Families are the only families welcome to use the front administration parking.
- DO NOT park at the Servite Friars house of residence and business - this is private property.
I do ask that families don’t use the ACROD Bays unless they have permit - we now have a large number of families that need these bays and recently have not been able to access these. Ciaran Centre families are more than welcome to use the bays at the front of the school as well.

Parking - Servite Friars and School
Just a reminder about parking to ensure that St Kieran families only park in the required designated areas. Please don’t park at the Servite Friars, including on their lawn and please don’t park in the Servite Staff areas. Servite College will be checking these areas and issuing reminder notices on cars that are not staff cars. Can you please give this your full attention as we need to be respectful of our neighbours.
Servite College
Just a reminder to all of our St Kieran families you must get your children's applications into Servite College nice and early. Please don’t wait until Year 5, as it will be too late we would suggest getting the applications in before Year 4. While St Kieran and Servite have a great relationship and are very close, parents still need to submit a separate enrolment application to Servite College. Please make sure you are organised nice and early with this enrolment process. If you have any questions please feel free to us in the office.
St Kieran Enrolments 2025
We have a very limited number of positions available in some year levels. Please contact the administration office for further details.
Students Leaving St Kieran
Can you please let the school know as soon as possible if your children are moving on from St Kieran in 2024. We currently have families on our wait lists and would like to accommodate as many people as possible. Please note a terms notice should be given in order to not be charged any subsequent fees.
School Uniform
As we come to the end of the 2024 and to keep reminding all parents that for the academic uniform the below shoes are to be worn - black lace up school shoes for both boys and girls. I would ask all parents to refer to the Uniform Policy on our school website.

Cyber Safety Month - Phishing
As part of Cyber Safety Month, we want to remind our students and families about the importance of protecting themselves from phishing scams. Phishing is when someone tries to trick you into giving away personal information like passwords or credit card numbers and other personal information by pretending to be someone you trust.
Here are some simple tips to stay safe:
- Think before you click: Be cautious of emails or messages from unknown senders, especially if they ask for personal information.
- Verify the source: If you receive a suspicious message, contact the person or organization directly using a known phone number or email address.
- Look for signs of phishing: Watch out for spelling mistakes, urgent requests, or unfamiliar links.
- Keep your information private: Never share your passwords or personal details over email or text.
Year 5 Overnight Leadership Camp
Our leadership camp started at the school gates where we meet the teachers and went upstairs to set up our stuff, We then had our prayer service and said goodbye to our parents. After the parents and guardians left, we sat down to have our sausage sizzle for dinner. It was very yummy and we even got to have our own ice cream or popsicle. Soon we all met upstairs and got put into eight teams to do some fun activities, The first activity we did was to get in a line of our birthdays without speaking. Second we built towers out of marshmallows and toothpicks and finally we all made flags about something the whole group liked. Then we got ready for bed, watched a movie with some popcorn. Some of us were still hungry so we had another hotdog and then we finally went to bed. In the morning we all got ready, played a little bit and then had some cereal, toast, fruit and a juice box. We went to the whole school mass and walked down to Grenville for our Surviorl Challenges in our 10 tribes. It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed the camp. We all went home exhausted.

Year 3 Zoo Excursion
The Year Threes had an amazing time at their excursion to Perth Zoo! They learned about animal classification and how to group animals by their features, including diet, habitat and physical attributes. It was a fun-filled day of learning and adventure!
Year 3 Fire Safety Incursion
Today, the Year Threes had the incredible opportunity to learn about fire safety! We explored firefighting gear and equipment and how they play a vital role in keeping people safe. The students also engaged in important discussions about fire prevention and how to respond effectively in case of an emergency. To top it off, they got hands-on experience shooting the fire hose! A huge thank you to our local fire department for making this day educational and fun.
