Principal's Message
‘Everyone comes with them at least one,
and probably many pieces,
to someone else’s puzzle.
Sometimes they know it, sometimes they don’t
...and when you present your piece to another,
whether they knew it or not,
whether they know it or not,
You are a messenger from the most high.’
Lawrence Kushner
Through giving a small piece of one’s self, we connect and build relationships with others. We begin to build the Kingdom of God within our school community. In Jesus’ life he offered pieces of himself to his community and followers. Through his offerings he touched and brought his Father’s message to all people. In our role as educators in Catholic Schools, we need to share the gifts we have throughout our community and encourage others to do the same. Jesus’ mission in his life was to build community and lead others, we are really lucky that we get to do this at St Kieran.
The responsibility remains with each of us to bring Jesus alive to every situation and the importance of bringing Jesus to the centre of all conversations in a Catholic school. This is something that is a part of our everyday lives at St Kieran Catholic Primary School. It is embedded into our thinking and something that keeps us centred on what is core to being a Catholic school community. Giving witness in this way allows our personal faith to be nurtured and nourished. Being inclusive and welcoming of each person is how Jesus lived his life. This becomes a daily opportunity at St Kieran as it gives us a chance to see Jesus alive in our community each day, not only the special things we see but the things we see that we are thankful for that show us Jesus is present. This is what we do and see as we build our communities. Jesus was always about the collective.
We have the opportunity within our St Kieran community, to invite all our families into the story of Jesus and his way of compassion, justice and peace. This is at the forefront of all we do and why we are how and who we are!
Have a great week and look after everyone.
Best wishes and take care.

School Calendar
Term 3 will see the school closed on Friday the 23rd August (Catholic Day) and Term 3 concludes for students on Thursday 19th September (Friday 20th September is a Staff Development Day).
Contact Details - Parents
It is imperative that parents and families update the school when your personal details change during the year. If you change your email address or mobile phone number please ensure that the school administration is contacted so we can update these details for communication purposes.
Australian Girls Choir Workshop
On the 29th of August at 12:30pm in the Music Room, the Australian Girls Choir will be running an assessment workshop. This will be opened to girls from pre-primary to year 6 and will feature singing and movement activities. Participants will receive personalized assessment report and further information about 2025 classes. A form will be coming home next week (week 3) for those interested in joining!
Community Masses
St Kieran Catholic Primary School and St Kieran Parish have a longstanding, collaborative relationship. To sustain this, we will facilitate Community Masses with the Parish while remaining committed to our School Improvement goals.
To enhance students' understanding of their Faction Patrons and foster community spirit, we encourage students to wear faction colours at the Mass. The dates for this year’s Community Masses (Saturday 6:30pm) evening Mass at St Kieran Parish) are:
- 14 September - Frayne Faction (Mercy Day 24/9)
- 9 November - Mercy Faction (Passing of Catherine McAuley 11/11)
We would encourage families to set aside the dates for your child's Faction Mass and join the Parish for this wonderful celebration.
Unwell Students
As we are well and truly in the colder months can we please ask that unwell students are not sent to school. Our staff will call parents if a child is unwell or presents unwell - we are not trained medical staff and if a child says they are unwell or looks unwell we will call the families to collect them. Sending an unwell child to school in turn has an impact on the other students as well as the staff and of course the families at St Kieran. Your consideration around this matter is appreciated.
Father's Day Breakfast
Just a reminder that next Friday we will have the Father's Day Breakfast being coordinated by Kieran Connect. Please makes sure you have followed all the instructions and have completed the appropriate details.

Annual Community Meeting
Our Annual Community Meeting will be held on Wednesday 21st November at 5pm in the Upper Learning Area. This will be a combination of the School Advisory and Kieran Connect Meetings.

As a School Advisory Council, we continue to look to support our school values and those of CEWA. If you ever have any questions regarding the School Advisory Council please contact Mr Burnett.
Placement of Students in Classes for 2025
Each year, staff use professional judgement to make fair and informed decisions about where they place students for the following year. These decisions are based on many aspects that consider the whole child. Staff consider academic ability, behavioural concerns, socio-emotional considerations, gender, learning needs, as well as friendships evident at school and attempt the even distribution across both classes when making these decisions.
If you have a significant matter that you wish to discuss with the Principal, please email Mr Burnett directly before Thursday 18th September daine.burnett@cewa.edu.au this date is not extended.
