Loving God,
Our creator, our saviour, our companion,
bless this journey,
of a new school year that we undertake today.
Refresh our souls and renew our spirits,
as we embrace the beautiful ministry you have called us to.
We welcome those who are new to this community,
and ask that you strengthen them,
to share the wonderful gifts you have given them.
Lord, make our hearts pure as we all,
prepare for the return of students to this school,
and may you guide them to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn.
We ask this in Your name.
Amen.
A very warm welcome back to all our families to the new year at St Kieran Catholic Primary School, and to those new families and children starting their journey with us we wish you all the best! I hope you all have had a wonderful break over Christmas and New Year and managed to get some rest and relaxation in.
Last year we spoke about the interruptions with COVID making the first day of school a little bit different than what we anticipated, but what can I say, the St Kieran community handled it with ease! This year while fingers crossed we have seen the last of the disruptions from COVID, however the Capital Development Plan being undertaken will in turn create its own disruptions. I really appreciate the understanding from all the families around the requirements we have had to put in place for this first semester. While I would be really happy to say we are back to normal very soon, we really do need to take each week as it comes and be as flexible as possible. This may mean that we make changes that don’t suit everyone, however they are made to fit the progress and what we are able to do to operate. If you ever have any questions always feel free to ask!
I look forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks.
Best wishes and take care.

Uniform
Thankyou to everyone for making the effort to be in school uniform for the first day. We have been informed that the popularity of the new uniform has impacted on stock levels, can I say the students look great and new stock is anticipated any day at JFE. We are aware this year will be a bit of a mix and match year with the transition from the old uniform to the new uniform year in 2024, but we do look forward to seeing the new uniform across the school.
I would ask all parents to refer to the Uniform Policy on our school website.

Procedure to Deal with Incidents
Unfortunately at times during the school day there are incidents that may arise that require intervention or follow up by either the staff or by parents. To assist with this process the procedure is located on the website, it may give you some strategies to work through during these times of heightening emotions. The one element to remember is that mistakes can be made and as a catholic school we forgive and reconcile and move forward together.

Dogs on School Grounds
Can I please remind all parents and family members that dogs are not permitted on the school site or at any school functions. We would respectfully ask that this followed as requested.
Playing After School
Children must be under the supervision of their parents and not on the playground equipment before or after school, this includes playing with balls on the courts. We please ask that after you have collected your child at the end of the day to leave the school grounds promptly. All playground equipment is out of bounds and we encourage you to take your children to Grenville Oval if you would like to catch up with other parents for a chat while your children have a play.
Can you please ensure that family members or friends that are picking up your children are made aware of this as well.
NUMERO Parent Session
On Wednesday 1st March between 6 - 7.30pm, we will have a guest presenter conducting a session for all parents on Numero. Numero is a mathematics based card game that assists children with mental computations from the most basic operation to the most complex. During this day we will be focusing on our Year 3, 4 and 5 classes however all parents are welcome to come along and learn the game. More information about Numero can be located here https://www.numero.org/
We will ask for RSVP's soon but please put this date and time in your calendars.
Morgans Street Kiss and Drive
We know the morning and afternoon drive through can be a very busy place, which relies on all families doing the right thing to ensure it runs smoothly. In order to keep it flowing, we ask that parents stay in their car at these times. If you need to get out of the car to assist your child with their seatbelt, then please park your car in an appropriate place and walk into school. Students are encouraged to independently get themselves in and out of the car, put their bags in and do up their own seatbelt.
There are signs asking parents to continue to Drive Forward so we can get as many children out of the cars as quickly as possible in the morning. When a parent stops at the Morgans Street gate it stops all the other cars behind them, which then creates issues on Morgans Street for our local residents.
Parking at Sister Catherine's House of Hospitality
St Catherine's House of Hospitality, located opposite the school on Tyler Street is a centre run by the Sisters of Mercy. It offers peaceful and prayerful reflection, restful recreation and shelter or short term accommodation in a simple setting that encourages respect for all. The carpark behind this building is only to be used by parents of children with special needs or disabilities. If your child does not have special needs, we ask that you use other carparks such as the St Kieran Parish Church, located over on Cape Street.
