St Kieran Newsletter Term 4, Week 1- 13 October 2022
Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 4.
I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather during the holidays and were able to re-energize for our final term for 2022.
Historically Term 4 is a busy one for teachers, students and families.
It can be a time where our busyness can over take our lives and we become easily stressed and feel like our world is spiralling out of control.
It is in these times that we need to focus on using our strengths to get us through.
The power of 'grit' is a powerful strength, that is sometimes underestimated but can prove to be very beneficial in developing our growth mindset.
Let us remember to use a positive mindset by continually modelling to our children that we don't give up when times get tough. Let us teach our children about the importance of perseverance, especially in this busy term.
“The ability to persevere in pursuing a future goal over a long period of time and not giving up… it's having stamina. It's sticking with your future, day in and day out, not just for a week, not just for a month but for years, and working really heard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like a marathon not a sprint.” - Angela Duckworth, PhD. Professor of psychology, The University of Pennsylvania
Together let us remind our students that although they may see the Christmas decorations in the shops, it's not Christmas yet and we have a lot of work to do before the end of the year. Yes, it will be busy and we will make mistakes but let us not loose our focus of being the best version of ourselves. Let us take Jesus as an example and teach our kids to be grittier.

Staff Professional Development Day MOVED
As our staff development day on Thursday 22nd September had to be cancelled due to the Queen's Memorial Public Holiday, we will move this day to FRIDAY 4th NOVEMBER. This will become a Pupil Free Day for all St Kieran Students. Those year 6 students attending Servite College in 2023, will still have their orientation at Servite on this day.
St Kieran School Uniform
We at St Kieran Catholic Primary School expect a high standard of dress to be maintained by all children. Our uniform is a sign of our School Community, and all are expected to support the Uniform Guidelines. Wearing the correct uniform encourages a sense of pride in self and school, and provides consistency and equality for all students. Parents are asked to vigilantly ensure that uniform and grooming requirements are adhered to.
All children are expected to wear the correct school and sport uniform on the appropriate days. There should be no mixing of the academic uniform and sports uniform. On excursions and attendance at out-of-school functions, staff will inform parents and students which uniform is to be worn. Parents and children are asked to adhere to school uniform expectations when purchasing items.
St Kieran Catholic Primary School is engaging with a new supplier and making several changes to the uniform. New uniform items are available to order via the JFE (Jenny Franklin Enterprise) website. We will allow families some time to migrate from the old to the new uniform. However, we hope all new items will be implemented across the school by the 1st January 2024.
Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines 2024 and the Online Uniform Ordering below.
JFE will deliver all online orders to the school - they will be available for collection every Wednesday afternoon from St Kieran Catholic Primary School - Administration.

Annual Community Meeting
The meeting date for our Annual Community Meeting has had to be altered - this will now be held on Wednesday 23rd November at 6pm in the Upper Learning Area. This will be a combination of the School Advisory and Kieran Connect Meeting's.
The School Advisory Committee now operates under the Terms of Reference, and these are listed on our school website. As a School Advisory Council, we continue to look to support our school values and those of CEWA, this may also mean that we second members to the council to assist us throughout the year.
If you ever have any questions regarding the School Advisory Council please contact Mr Burnett.
