St Kieran Newsletter Term 1 Week 9 - 24 March 2022
Principal's Message

God of goodness, God of surprises,
send angels of inspiration to guide and enlighten as you did Mary.
Awaken us again to our true calling, our true mission:
to walk with you on the paths laid out to us.
Teach us to listen for you in every corner of our lives,
and to await your messengers in the most unexpected situations and conditions.
We ask this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen
A Reading from the Gospel according to Luke - In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, and he came to Mary and said, ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.’ But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.’
The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to proclaim that she is to be the Mother of God. So often when we think about consenting to God’s will, we think of it as something we know we should do but aren’t often sure about it. If we think of the Garden of Gethsemane, maybe, where Jesus says “Thy will be done” experiencing great anguish in fear of what is about to occur. The story of the Annunciation, reveals another side of embracing God’s will. Was Mary afraid or unsure, there is no doubt. The angel had to give her some relief: “Do not be afraid.” Mary’s fear turns to faith, and then to humility as she recognises that God will do great things through her.
As we continue in this Lenten season, let us recognise where God is calling each of us. Let us follow the path of Mary, asking God to turn our fear into faith believing that our efforts contribute to the dream God has for the world. We can do great things through him when we say ‘yes’ to his plan for us.
I hope your week ends well and that you are keeping safe and well.

COVID -19 Update
At St Kieran Catholic Primary School we continue to have a number of positive cases that arise during the week. When these cases impact on a classroom or students we will communicate with those that are required to take action.
It is vitally important that parents and caregivers inform the school if their child tests positive for COVID-19. To support our planning for your child’s classroom attendance, please continue to notify St Kieran Catholic Primary School if your child returns a negative PCR/ RAT result, after:
- being identified as a close contact (Day 1 test to return to school as an asymptomatic close contact), and/or
- being identified as a household close contact (Day 7 test to conclude quarantine).
To help streamline this process a COVID-19 Self-reporting Form for Students and Staff members has been developed by Catholic Education WA (CEWA). Parents and caregivers can now inform the school of their child’s positive or negative COVID result via this LINK. The information will go directly to the Principal, prompting our COVID response. This is now the only way to report a positive case to St Kieran Catholic Primary. Please ensure you upload the WA Health text message or email during this process.
The link is also available on the front page of the St Kieran Catholic Primary School website St Kieran CPS Website
Please do not underestimate the importance of informing St Kieran Catholic Primary School of a positive COVID case. Your actions will ensure the risk to others is minimised and that we do our very best to limit the spread of the virus across our community.
Important Note: All COVID-19 positive results (PCR or RAT) must also be reported to the Department of Health (WA Health) by Parents/Caregivers and Staff, and failure to do so can result in a fine.
If there are any issues at all, please use my email address as it is monitored outside of school hours – daine.burnett@cewa.edu.au Thank you for your continuing understanding and cooperation as we take the necessary steps to keep our school community safe.
Traffic - St Kieran
This week we have attached the Guide for the Kiss and Drive. Please take the time to look over this to refresh your memory and understand the process for using this. While it is quicker to do a short cut into the Kiss and Drive (turning right into the Kiss and Drive), it is also not fair to the parents doing the right thing and getting frustrated by those that are choosing not to. Staff will be monitoring this over the next couple of weeks and redirected cars to the end of the line.
We ask all families to please be patient and park legally around the school and do so in a manner that is safe not only for our families but also the general public. This includes parking in the medium strip on Cape Street to access the Kindy and Pre-Primary area. The City of Stirling has been notified regarding this and will engage the Rangers to assist in this matter.

Afterschool Protocols on School Grounds
We please ask that after you have collected your child at the end of the day to leave the school grounds promptly. All playground equipment is out of bounds and we encourage you to take your children to Grenville Oval if you would like to catch up with other parents for a chat while your children have a play.
Cape Street Traffic Crossing - Traffic Warden
The traffic crossing attendant on Cape Street is currently not available, hence we are asking all families to be extra vigilant in crossing Cape Street. We have contacted the Traffic Warden State Management Unit and they are working through a process to have another warden appointed.
If any of our community members would like to explore the possibility of becoming a relief or permanent traffic warden please make contact with the St Kieran CPS office and we can direct you down the correct path for training and further information.
4 Year Old Kindergarten Enrolments
St Kieran's are now interviewing for Kindy 2023.
Your child is eligible if their date of birth falls between 1st July 2018 - 30th June 2019.
Please contact administration for further details admin@stkieran.wa.edu.au or 63832600

Interschool Swimming Carnival
The Interschool Swimming Carnival at this stage has been cancelled due to the current COVID situation and other schools not being able to go ahead with their carnivals. If there is any change to this information, I will be sure to let parents and students know.
